Obama: People Want To Be Told "How Are You Going To Help Me Right Now?"

Matt Lauer, NBC: Maybe the better is question is 'how will you spend the money?' By all accounts you can raise a lot of money for this campaign. Some people say up to a billion dollars. We've just seen in Florida, on the Republican side, a lot of money spent. About a 100% of it spent on extremely negative personal ads. If you raise a billion dollars to keep this job, can we expect the same kind of negativity coming from that money? President Barack Obama: What I can tell you is that in 2008 part of the reason that we were successful is that we ran an affirmative campaign about my vision for where the United States should go. And I think what Americans what to hear more than anything else is 'how are you going to help me right now?' If they're hearing a persuasive argument about we are going to recreate a solid path for middle-class success in this country then I think I'll win regardless of the negative -- Send to a Friend |

Obama: "I Deserve A Second Term"

"I deserve a second term, but we’re not done," President Obama said to NBC's Matt Lauer during the network's coverage of the Super Bowl. In an interview with Lauer before the 2009 Super Bowl, Obama said if the economy hasn't turned around in three years then he should not get a second term. "We've made progress. The key now is to make sure we don’t start turning in the wrong direction," Obama said. Send to a Friend |

Chuck Todd: "Head-Scratcher" To See If Nominee Can Go Against Obama

Chuck Todd, NBC News: It's become a liability because he's made it a liability. And that's what's so bizarre about this. His answers have changed. I first asked him the tax return question 28 days ago, the first time he was asked, and he said, no, he probably wouldn't do it. He's changed his answer every time he's been asked, whether by one of us, by debate moderators, by candidates. At some point now, he's boxed himself in. He probably needs to hurry up and get this out of the way sooner rather than later because he's acting like somebody who's got something to hide. And at this point it only adds to this sort of head-scratcher, you're like, "What's going on here? Do you guys have your stuff together to be the nominee and go up against Obama?" Send to a Friend |

Gingrich Slams Romney: I'm For Taking Risk, Trying To Save Companies, Not Looting Them

Newt Gingrich: I think at some point Gov. Romney's going to have to hold a press conference and walk through, with considerable detail, some of the companies that Bain took over where they apparently looted the companies, left people unemployed and walked off with millions of dollars. Look, I'm for capitalism. I'm for people who go in to save a company. I'm for people who take real risk. I'm for people who grow jobs, and I understand sometimes you fail. I've run four small businesses in the last decade. It gets tough out there. It doesn't always work. I get that. But if somebody comes in, takes all the money out of your company and then leaves you bankrupt while they go off with millions, that's not traditional capitalism. Matt Lauer: Considering the fact that Gov. Romney may eventually be the nominee of the party, can't you already hear the ads from President Obama's team saying this is a guy whose own party members called him a corporate raider, a predator and ruthless? Gingrich: Any Republican who gets the nomination is going to have Axelrod and Obama figuring out every possible way -- they're going to raise a billion dollars. They're not raising it -- as the governor himself said in your quote, 'This ain't bean bag.' They aren't going to raise a billion dollars for fun. They're going to come after any Republican. That's why I think a Reagan conservative who's articulate, who can debate effectively is much more likely to beat Obama than somebody who can't defend their record. And I think Gov. Romney will have to defend what he did at Bain. That's his record. He's proud of the fact that he wasn't in public office while I was. Fine. He can take on my public record, but then he owes us a report on his stewardship of his private record, and we ought to do it now because whatever happens this spring, I guarantee you it will be much worse in September and October, and we wouldn't want to stumble into a campaign not knowing what's at risk. Romney Backtracks: "I'm Not Predicting A Win" In Iowa

"Well actually, if I get 25 percent, if that turns out to be the case, that will most likely be the highest number. So winning is just fine. Now, I’m not predicting a win. Maybe I get 20 percent, someone else gets 25 [percent]," Mitt Romney said on NBC's "Today Show" this morning. Last night, Romney told supporters at a campaign stop that "we're going to win this thing." Send to a Friend |
