Van Jones: Environmentalists Don't Protest Democrat Presidents

VAN JONES: "I'm critical of myself, first, and the environmentalists. When the oil spill had happened in the spring of 2010, there was another moment to say, 'Hold on a second, let's relook at energy policy in America. Should we be subsidizing companies who are risking our health immediately and in the long-term?'" We didn't do it. You've never seen the environmental movement more quiet during an oil spill. I guarantee you, if John McCain had been President, with that oil spill, or George Bush had been President with that oil spill, I'd have been out there with a sign protesting. I didn't, because of who the President was. Well, that's a bad, uh, uh...that's not good for the earth, it's not good for the cause, it's probably not good for the President. It's certainly not the way we should conduct ourselves. And so, I'm very tough on progressive movements and leaders, including myself, who did not stand on principle, based upon who we looked across and saw as President."

Herman Cain: Obama "Taking Black People For Granted"

"This was clearly a political decision, a political move. You know, Democrats have long taken black people for granted, their votes. Now this president coming out with this issue, he's now taking black people for granted not just their votes. This is a states' rights issue. Why does he want to hijack this issue and try to make it national issue when it is not," Herman Cain said about President Obama's position on gay marriage.

"He wants to repeal DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act. Forgive me for sounding as if I'm frustrated, who does he think he is? He is not God, he is the President of the United States and that's what's turning a lot of people off," Cain said.

Gov. Mitch Daniels: Addressing Debt Problem Would Spur Job Growth

FOX News' Greta van Susteren: I realize it's a vast topic and probably is worthy of 10 hours of discussion, but is there something that can at least jump start us so we could feel good about ourselves and get a big jump on the economy and get a grip on what is happening to our growing debt?

Gov. Mitch Daniels (R-Ind.): It could take 10 hours, but think I can name that tune in well under a minute. First of all, if we would even begin to address it, it would make a dramatic, positive difference for jobs and growth in this country. If the world, which really wants to keep financing the United States -- they don't have a better alternative. [If] the world even saw us start down the path of reconciling our long-term commitments and our means, they would reward that, with, I think, new investment and lower interest rates on a long-term basis.

How do to do it -- a lot of ways. First of all, means test the programs, concentrate the money on low people who really need it. Secondly, we should, you know, clearly stop over-indexing the programs, protect people against the cost of living, but not necessarily more. Raise the retirement age, very gradual to something that lines up with today's actuarial realities. All of those things, only to start in a few years, you say to people in the program today, 'You're good to go, nothing's going to change for you, but help us make sure that younger people have something waiting for them too.'

Fmr. Sen. Alan Simpson: Paul Krugman "Borders On Hysteria"

Former Senator Simpson (R-Wyoming) on what he would say in response to Paul Krugman, who argues for more spending for the U.S. to grow out of recession: "I say why don't you read our report and then get back to me. It is 67 pages talking about taking care of the vulnerable in society. It talks about not moving too fast. We don't talk about putting teeth in the shark until 2013. Paul Krugman is a great economist, but he ain't the best in the world. This is nuts. To have one guy or me or him being the total focus here, but you do not have to have a brain to know that if you owe it 16 trillion dollars when Italy is going down the slope and their debt is $2.6 trillion and ours is $16, and when you spend a buck and borrow 42 cents and when every penny of revenue that came into this country last year with income tax, excise tax and tariffs, went to only three programs. Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. We have borrowed for the rest of it. Ask Paul how the hell you get through that. This is totally predictable, totally unsustainable. I love to read his stuff because it borders on hysteria. He talks about the lost souls of the past, and he is in there, too. This is not 20 years ago, it isn't 10. It is now. You have 10,000 a day coming into the system. The demographics are there. It is all different -- it is not the same."

Limbaugh: Obama's "War On Women" Has Backfired Big Time

RUSH LIMBAUGH: Well, guess what? Our Rush Babes for America Facebook page has over 62,000 female friends, almost two-and-a-half times the total membership at the NOW gang Facebook page. But in this New York Times/CBS poll, let me read this again. Romney is ahead of Obama by three points. He's leading Obama among women. It's now 46-44. Obama had a 49-43% lead among women, and now it's flipped, 46-44, women prefer Romney. That's an 8% decrease in support for Obama. So Obama's War on Women has backfired big time. I can't think of a war that's backfired more since the Arabs said to each other back in 1967, "Let's wipe Israel off the map." That didn't go too well, and neither is Obama's War on Women. And our Rush Babes for America page at Facebook, I mean I knew it was gonna be powerful, but I had no idea it would be this powerful this soon. Over 61,000 friends. We mentioned this once a day where people can go and sign up.

But for some reason neither the New York Times nor CBS News seems to have noticed, the breakdown of the women's vote in their poll. They're not reporting it. They're burying it. I haven't seen it mentioned. Not even over at PMSNBC are they talking about this. They're not interested in how Obama's faring with women, just isn't newsworthy anymore because he's losing. Romney is ahead, up three overall, up two 46-44 with women, but just in the last month Obama was up 49-43 with women. And these people live and die by these polls. They are their reality. They use these polls to make news. They use these polls to influence public opinion, not reflect it, and that means that all this is a double whammy.

For two months or longer now -- time is flying by -- this War on Women was designed to get every woman in America hating Republicans and hating Romney, loving Obama. Obama is the guy's gonna protect their birth control pills, gonna protect their right to abortion, gonna protect them against these predatory men, which is every man. And they have had polls. They've done news stories. They've done television reports. Everything is designed to shape public opinion the way Obama wants it. And then they go out and do a poll to see how successfully they have shaped opinion, they find out they failed. So it makes sense that they don't report it. You have to dig deep in the New York Times/CBS poll internals to find these numbers.

Wasserman Schultz: My Job "To Peel Folks Like James Carville Off The Ceiling"

BLITZER: With polls suggesting that Mitt Romney is even with or even leading President Obama, is it time for the Democrats to panic?

Let's discuss that with Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida. She is the chair of the Democratic National Committee.

James Carville, a man you know, the man I know, our CNN contributor. He wrote this blog last week saying, I'll put it up on the screen. WTFU, translated, wake the you know what up, there is an earthquake. What are you smoking? What are you drinking?

What are you snorting or just what in the hell are you thinking? Earlier he said, it's time to panic because so many Democratic leadership in the party and the campaign seem to be complacent that the president has a lot before being re-elected. He says you have to fight.

REPRESENTATIVE DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ, DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE CHAIRWOMAN: Well, I guess, it's my job to peel folks like James Carville off the ceiling because it's certainly not time to panic.

I haven't noticed complacency at all. I mean, in the last year, I've traveled to 33 states and almost 100 cities, Wolf and people our very focused.

Our supporters understand what's at stake here. They know the dramatic contrast in the two directions that we could go. They understand that this will be a close election and they are fired up and ready to go. And we've got a tremendous amount of activity through our neighborhood --

BLITZER: You are not just resting assuming it's a done deal.

SCHULTZ: We are not kicking back and relaxing, I can assure you.

HASSELBECK: "Mr. President, I believe it was with Matt Lauer in 2009, you sat down, you were talking about the economy and you said in three years I'll be held accountable. If I don't have this done, quote, in three years, then there's going to be a one-term proposition. Admittedly so in our first segment, you said that Americans are still feeling the hurt of the economy. So how do you grade yourself, honestly, in terms of how you've done in terms of economics?

Obama: GOP Message Is "You're Frustrated And It's Obama's Fault"

President Obama spoke candidly about his reelection chances at a fundraiser in New York City hosted by singer Ricky Martin and the LGBT Leadership Council. This is Obama's first LGBT fundraiser since he announced his support for same-sex marriage last week.

Obama tells supporters he is not "worried" about winning a second term, citing "the reason why I'm not worried is because of you."

Obama says Republicans will "spend hundreds of millions of dollars" to drill it into voters that he should be blamed for their frustration. Obama, who spent a good deal of his first term blaming "the previous administration" for the economy, seems concerned the same attack will be used against him.

President Obama at New York City fundraiser: The only thing that is holding us back is the fact that things are still tough out there. There are still too many people without work and there are still too many people who are struggling to get by even if they have work.

And what's also is going to make this a very close race is the fact that you've got special interests and these Super PACs that are spending money on negative ads in unprecedented ways. And their message is going to be very simple:

'You know what? You're frustrated, you're dissatisfied and it's Obama's fault.'

You can boil down the message.

You know, we're traveling around trying to prevent a doubling of student loan rates and the Republicans say, 'he's trying to distract from the economy.' Well, last I checked making sure our kids got a good education and weren't loaded down with debt, that has something to do with our economy. But what they really meant was, this distracts from our basic argument that, 'you're frustrated and it's Obama's fault.'

And they will spend hundreds of millions of dollars to try to drill that home. But I'm not worried and the reason why I'm not worried is because of you.

Pat Buchanan: Biden "Dragged Barack Obama Out Of The Closet"

Author and conservative commentator Patrick J. Buchanan disagrees that President Obama's public support will help him, saying, "I think that Joe Biden basically dragged Barack Obama out of the closet." He continued, "I think the president has put his presidency at risk because this is an emotional, cultural, moral issue. And when folks go to the polls the overwhelmingly majority already in 30 states have imposed a ban on homosexual marriage."

"[Obama] is not going to put gay marriage into the Democratic platform. If you believe in it deeply, why not? Mitt Romney says he supports a constitutional amendment upholding traditional marriage. Does Barack Obama support a constitutional amendment which upholds same-sax marriage? No," Buchanan said.

"This is the heart of the cultural war, Megyn, it is the fundamental beliefs "¦ in Christianity, in scripture and tradition, and all those ideas of right and wrong against a new secularist idea which is quite militant, no doubt gaining in strength. That is the root of the culture war. It's just like abortion. Is it okay, I mean is that a progressive move or is that the killing of an unborn child. These are the things that are really dividing the country and they're going to continue. I didn't declare it a culture war, we just admitted it was there," Buchanan said.

Book: Obama Confidant Tried To Bribe Rev. Jeremiah Wright

Author Ed Klein discusses Obama's relationship with Rev. Wright, a relationship he details in great length in his new book, "The Amateur."

"What happened is that after ABC's Brian Ross broadcast the audiotapes --videotapes of the Rev. Wright God damning America and slamming whites and slamming Jews and America, he was contacted by one of Obama's closest personal friends, a guy who travels on Obama's plane, who plays basketball with him, who goes on vacations with him," author Ed Klein told Sean Hannity on his nationally syndicated radio program.

"I didn't name him in the book, but I can tell you who he is. His name is Dr. Eric Whitaker. Dr. Whitaker is the vice president of the University of Chicago Medical Center and he's a member of Obama's very tight inner-circle. And he sent an email to a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ," Klein said.

Klein notes that Michelle Obama worked at the same hospital as Whitaker and made $316k a year.

Klein reveals that Whitaker sent an email to Rev. Jeremiah Wright, offering him $150,000 to stay quiet and not do any public speeches until after the election in November 2008.

"Chicago politics is one hand feeds the other, as you know. And Eric Whitaker, a very close friend of the Obamas, sent an email to a member of the church saying that the Rev. Wright could get a $150,000 if he would shut up and not criticize Obama anymore," Klein said.

"Then, after Rev. Wright said, 'no thank you,' Obama himself paid a personal call on the Rev. Wright," he said. The face-to-face meeting took place in March 2008, 10 days after Obama's famous "race speech" took place.

"Now we know that this is true, not only because the Rev. Wright told me so, but because the Secret Service logs logged in this meeting. So we have confirmation that it actually took place," Klein said.

Krauthammer On Drones Flying In US: "Stop It Here, Stop It Now"

"I'm going to go hard left on you here, I'm going ACLU," syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer said in opposition to the use of drones on the U.S. homeland. "I don't want regulations, I don't want restrictions, I want a ban on this. Drones are instruments of war. The Founders had a great aversion to any instruments of war, the use of the military inside even the United States. It didn't like standing armies, it has all kinds of statutes of using the army in the country."

"A drone is a high-tech version of an old army and a musket. It ought to be used in Somalia to hunt bad guys but not in America. I don't want to see it hovering over anybody's home. Yes, you can say we have satellites, we've got Google Street View and London has a camera on every street corner but that's not an excuse to cave in on everything else and accept a society where you're always under -- being watched by the government. This is not what we want," Krauthammer said on the panel portion of FOX News' "Special Report."

"I would say that you ban it under all circumstances and I would predict, I'm not encouraging, but I an predicting that the first guy who uses a Second Amendment weapon to bring a drone down that's been hovering over his house is going to be a folk hero in this country," Krauthammer said tonight.

"I would say the price of liberty. You can hear a helicopter, you can't hear a drone. You know, if you hear a helicopter you hide under a bush. Well, you can't with this which is why it's effective in Pakistan and elsewhere. It's deft and it's silent. I don't think we want a society where if there are the objects, hovering over streaming, real-time information about you, your family, your car, your location," Krauthammer said later in the segment.

"It's not worth it," he said.

"The Founders we're deeply opposed to the militarization of civil society. There is all kinds of aversions to it and this is importing it because, as you say, it's cheap, it's easy, it's silent. It's something that you can easily deploy. It's going to be, I think the bane of our existence. Stop it here, stop it now," Krauthammer said at the end of the panel segment. "Strong letter to follow."

Obama Ties "Forward" Campaign Slogan To The Constitution

President Obama referred to the Constitution's ability to help those who had originally been left out to fight their way in, especially when it came to unresolved race and gender rights. Obama likened the Constitutional to a "constant forward movement" in his commencement address to the women-only Barnard College.

"What made this document special was that it made it possible for those who were left out to fight their way back in a constant forward movement," Obama said. "We look forward, not back."

Obama's campaign slogan, FORWARD, was introduced last month.

Chris Matthews: Jesus Would Have Protected Kid Romney Chased

While discussing gay marriage with two black religious leaders on different sides of the issue, MSNBC's Chris Matthews said Jesus would not have chased a kid and cut his hair like Mitt Romney reportedly did as a youth in high school. Matthews says Jesus would have protected the kid.

"I remember that Jesus always stood against the people being stoned," Matthews said to gay marriage opponent Bishop Harry Jackson of the Hope Christian Church.

"He was the one who said, 'don't condemn people.' His friend was Mary Magdalene, right?" Matthews asked rhetorically. "He wasn't out there saying obey the law strictly like the pharisees were. He was the one saying, 'be Christian in the sense of looking out for mercy, people who were in trouble."

"Do you think he would have been chasing after the kid with long hair and cutting his hair, or he would have been the one protecting the kid with long hair in high school?" Matthews asked.

Obama Slams Media At College Commencement: Full Of "Sensationalism And Scandal"

"No wonder that faith in our institutions has never been lower. Particularly when good news doesn't get the same kind of ratings as bad news anymore," President Obama said in his commencement address at Barnhard College in New York City.

"Everyday, you receive a steady stream of sensationalism and scandal," Obama said. "And stories with a message that suggest change is impossible. That you can't make a difference. That you won't be able to close that gap between life as it is and life as you want it to be. My job today is to tell you don't believe it. Because, as tough as things have been, I am convinced you are tougher."

Obama: "Question Is Not Whether Things Will Get Better, They Always Do"

"The question is not whether things will get better, they always do. The question is not whether we've got the solutions to our challenges, we have had them within our grasp for quite some time," Obama said at Barnard College's commencement ceremony.

"We know for example that this country would be better off if more Americans were able to get the kind of education you've received here at Barnard. if more people could get the specific skills and training that employers are looking for today. We know that we'd all be better off if we invest in science, technology and that sparks new businesses and medical breakthroughs, if we developed more clean energy so we could use less foreign oil and reduce the carbon pollution that is threatening our planet," Obama told the graduating class.

Obama To College Women: "You Can Be Stylish And Powerful"

President Obama gives advice on women advancing in the workplace in his commencement address at the women-only Barnard College in New York City.

Obama tells women not to get caught up with the obsession over beauty and fashion and instead be a role model and focus on leading.

Obama shared advice that Michelle Obama has taught women, "you can be stylish and powerful too."

"Until there are women who tell her ignore our pop culture obsession over beauty and fashion and focus instead on studying and inventing and competing and leading, she'll think those are the only things that girls are supposed to care about. Now, Michelle will say there's nothing wrong with caring about that a little bit," Obama said in his commencement speech.

"You can be stylish and powerful too," Obama said.

Obama evoked his daughters Sasha and Malia as products of a successful parenting by Michelle and her mother Marian Robinson. The was one of several times he mentioned his daughters during his speech.

"Malia and Sasha are going to be outstanding women because of Michelle and Marian Robinson are outstanding women. So understand your power and use it wisely," Obama said.

Newsweek Columnist Likens "Insufferable" Ann Romney To Hitler, Stalin

"Part of it is they are trying to reignite this controversy, right? I mean, they also have out this new Super PAC ad out about basically: Is Ann Romney under attack for being a mother? To me, it's still kind of amazing that they're still milking this thing. You know?" Newsweek and Daily Beast columnist Michelle Goldberg said on MSNBC.

"It can't only be me that kind of initially saw Ann Romney as maybe a sympathetic or neutral figure but who is increasingly seeing her as someone who is kind of insufferable because of the way she's milking this thing," Newsweek and Daily Beast columnist Michelle Goldberg said about Ann Romney writing a column about raising her children.

Goldberg found Ann Romney's glowing praise of motherhood in a column she wrote for USA Today to be "kind of creepy." During an appearance on MSNBC's weekend program "Up with Chris Hayes," Goldberg said the phrase "the crown of motherhood," which Ann Romney used in her column, reminded her of "authoritarian societies" that give out awards for large families.

"In a lot ways, the column was totally anodyne, right? She's, you know, yes, motherhood is beautiful. I found that phrase, 'the crown of motherhood' really kind of creepy. Not just because of it's somewhat -- you know, it's kind of really authoritarian societies that give out like a Cross of Motherhood. They give out awards for big families," Goldberg said on the program's panel.

"You know, Stalin did it, Hitler did it," she said.

"The other part of it is that it plays into this thing of what we, you know. We have this kind of compact in the United States, where what we deny women in social support, or status or kind of economic security, we make up for in, in sort of insipid condescending praise," Goldberg concluded.
